So, I am plugging away at my new book. Going really well. It’s hard though. It’s a science fiction mystery/suspense, lol. That means that as I write, I am also creating an entire world. Sometimes, I will finish off a passage or a block of dialogue, only to realize that it doesn’t work according to the rules of my new world. Then I have to go back and rework it.
One thing I did discover during the writing for the last book (which should be available ANY DAY NOW) is how to keep writing. I have tried writing books in the past, but always stopped fairly quickly. I would think to myself, “What a load of crap this is.” Then I would quit. What I discovered while writing The View From the Wrong Side of the Day was that the first draft didn’t have to be perfect. It didn’t even have to be good. In fact, it took 6 months of editing to get it right. The difference was that I kept at it. If any of you are writers, or want to be, keep this in mind. Get it out on paper (I use a stream of consciousness approach), THEN make it better with each rewrite.
